SchoolStatus Classic Mobile on iPhone and Android lets you make calls, send texts, and deliver broadcasts directly from your phone. Best of all, your personal cell number stays private.
How to Download SchoolStatus Mobile
Head to the Apple App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android), search for “SchoolStatus Classic,” or use the direct download links for iPhone or Android. Once it’s installed, you’re all set to begin.
Getting Started
To get started, you’ll need a SchoolStatus account. If you don’t have one yet, reach out to your district or school staff to have one created.
Click "Login"
Sign in using your email address, or choose the “Continue with Google” option.
If you chose to sign in using your email address, type your password. Then tap, Continue.
Next, you'll need to set your PIN and then enter it again to confirm.
Start Communications by Searching for a Student
Once you're logged in, click on the Conversations tab and click the +.
Type the name of a student or scroll to find the student's name.
Tap the student contact you wish to communicate with.
After selecting a contact, you can view your message history, start a new message, or place a call. You’ll also have access to your call history with that contact. To send a text, type your message in the text box and tap the send icon.
To place a call, tap the phone icon. Your device may ask you to allow microphone access - once you grant permission, you’ll be able to call the contact.
Because a unique phone number is created for each caller/contact pair, the number stays consistent. So if you’ve been calling someone and send your first text, it will come from the same number - as long as the recipient’s phone number hasn’t changed.
When you receive a new message, you’ll get a push notification (if enabled on your device), along with an indicator in your account.
You can also send and receive pictures, GIFs, and emojis.
Sending a Broadcast Message
Select Broadcast from the bottom menu, then click the + in the top corner to start a new broadcast.
Next, choose your audience: a Student Group (which must be created beforehand - see the help article for guidance), a Course (your students are already organized into courses, so no additional setup is needed), or (Individual) Contacts.
Now select your name (as a teacher), the term, then the course. Click the + to add the course to your broadcast.
To send a broadcast message, you’ll first need to mark your contacts as preferred (see the help article for instructions). In this example, the broadcast will be sent to 25 contacts within the selected course.
Type your message and send! Notice you can add attachments.
Settings
From the Settings tab, you can contact support and do a few other things.Things you can do here include: contacting support, logging out, and checking your version. To Allow Notifications, click on Access & Notifications.
Ensure that Push-Notifications are toggled ON.
Update your Mobile Notification Settings
In addition to enabling push notification in the app, you also need to allow notifications within your device settings. Here's how.
When you first log in, you'll receive the pop-up box asking if you'd like to 'Allow Notifications'. You MUST click Allow. (You can change it later if you want.)
iPhone Steps to Turn Notifications On
Click on Settings. Then scroll down to the list of your installed apps. Find SchoolStatus and click it.
Make sure you have the microphone access checked, or your microphone won't work.
Next, click on Notifications, and toggle Allow Notifications to ON (green). You can also turn them off here.
That’s all there is to it - it’s that simple. With SchoolStatus Classic Mobile, you can close critical communication gaps and help improve student outcomes and performance.
