Making meaningful parental contact is easy with SchoolStatus. Users can call parents in three ways; on the web with your computer, on the web from your cell phone, or from our SchoolStatus App for Apple or Google. The Educator's phone number is kept private and all calls made in SchoolStatus are automatically logged and recorded to help protect teachers, parents, and students.
The phone number that calls the parent will be one provisioned by SchoolStatus at the time the call is initially placed. Every call thereafter to the same contact will use the same number (meaning it's sticky to that pair).
Teacher A calls Parent A. A unique phone number is generated and assigned to this pair (Teacher A/Parent A). Every time these two people communicate, the same number will be used.
Teacher A calls or texts Parent B. A unique phone number is also generated for this pair (Teacher A/Parent B). Now, every time these two people communicate, the same number will be used.
This holds true as long as the parent's contact number stays the same. When a new number is used, say Parent A got a new number. The next time Teacher A calls Parent A, a new unique pair generates a new number.
Takeaway: Parent A can save the number that Teacher A calls or texts from as 'Teacher A' in his or her phone and continue to use it all year.
Most importantly, the Educator’s phone number will remain private.
The number that calls the parent will be the same on calls from the computer, cell phone via the computer, or the SchoolStatus App. Parents will also hear a message before being connected to Educators that will alert them that the phone call is being recorded.
Placing Calls from the Web Platform
Web calls from your computer will essentially turn your computer into a speakerphone, so you will need a computer that has a microphone and speakers. Many classroom desktops lack a microphone, but most laptops (and Chromebooks) have them built in.
Web calls from your cell phone mean that we will call your cell phone and then set up a three-way phone call to the parents in order to keep your number private.
To make a phone call first log into SchoolStatus and go to the Student Card of the student that needs to be called.
Click on Contacts.
Then choose the contact you want to call and click on the green phone icon.
You will be presented with two choices; Call Using My Computer (Free) and Call Using My Cell Phone.
Calling from your cell phone will use cell phone minutes. SchoolStatus does not charge for these calls, but your cell phone provider may charge you. (Users with “Unlimited Calling” cell phone plans would not incur additional charges.)
Calling from your computer will require that you allow access to your computer’s microphone and speakers. The call will then connect, record, and log automatically. A user will also be able to take notes on the call, use a dial pad, mute the call, or hang up with the tools that appear at the bottom of the screen.
To end the call, click on "End Call."
Calling from your cell phone will place a call to your phone. Click Call Using My Cell Phone then click Proceed. (Hint: Make sure your cell phone is nearby when you place the call.)
The caller's phone will ring and when that call is answered, SchoolStatus will automatically dial the parent for a three-way phone call.
To end these calls - simply hang up.
NOTE: Making calls from using the 'Call using my Cell' option requires users to first verify their cell number in the SchoolStatus Settings page.
Click on Settings in the top right corner of the screen.
Enter your cell phone number and click Update in the bottom right corner. You will receive a text message to confirm your cell phone number.
Placing Calls with SchoolStatus Mobile
First, download the App from whichever App Store you use. Search for SchoolStatus Mobile. When you launch the app the first time, it will ask you to log in with your school email address and password for SchoolStatus.
The app will then ask you to set a 4 digit pin code. That way you will not have to log in with your email address every time you want to make a call. If you have an iPhone, you can use TouchID or Face ID to login as well.
Once the app has launched, type in the name of a student or parent to start a call.
Tap on the student’s name to bring up the contact list for that student.
Click on the contact you want to call and you will see the call history between you and that parent.
Tap on the Call icon at the top of the screen to be connected to that parent.
When you're finished talking you can tap the red "End Call" icon.
Now that you're a SchoolStatus Calling expert, take some time to explore the Student Card!
