Now you can use a list of students with SIS IDs to make a custom Searchlight list (and a Group)! This is really helpful when you need to communicate with a list of students who, say, have signed up for a field trip or have an unpaid lunch account balance.
Identify the students you need on the list
First, create a list of students with SIS IDs. You may be able to download this list from other software sources, or manually download a .csv of students within SchoolStatus and delete rows to manually create it. All you really need is the list of SIS ID numbers. Now you are ready!
Pro Tip: The SIS (student information system) ID is required. This will not work with State IDs or other identifying student numbers.)
Make a Searchlight list
In SchoolStatus, click Searchlight on your left side menu, and click +New. It's always a good idea to select "Enrollment Status" is "Yes" when building a Searchlight; you can also add other limiting filters, like "School Name," If you like. Select "SIS ID" and "is any of" and then paste your list of SIS ID numbers into the blank.
Pro Tip: For sending Broadcasts, limit this list to about 150 students, since Broadcasts can only be sent to about 300 contacts.
Click Run and you'll see the number of students populate on your list. Then, click the red Save List button to complete the process.
Use the Searchlight list to make a group.
Click the title of the Searchlight list you just saved. If you like, you can click on Students to see the list of names. Then click the Make Group button. This publishes the list as a student group in the Groups module, using the same name you just saved.
Use the Student Group
Click Groups on your left side menu and select the student group name you've just created. You can use the Actions button to edit the list name or email the group. You can also select the "Notifiable" button to make this group visible to you In Notify.
Pro Tip: If you need other SchoolStatus users to have access to this list, you can follow these steps to create a User Group and make the student group visible to the users you add.
