Use SchoolStatus to text student contacts via your computer browser or the SchoolStatus mobile app, all while keeping your personal cell phone number private.
Texting a Student Contact from the Web Browser
From the left side menu, click Contacts
Find the person you'd like to text, and click the blue text message icon. (Note that if the icon isn't "clickable" that means the number can't receive text messages.)
Type your 160 character message. You can also add up to 5 attachments here, as long as they are in .jpg or .png format.
Once you've completed your message, press send. Then, go back to the menu and click Engagement to see your recent text conversations.
What if I want to send a link?
Just copy that link or type it out and send it. Your link might get shortened automatically to help reduce your character count. A message that reads:
Hello parents, please go to https://asjdfljdflajdfl.com
May be delivered as:
Hello parents, please go to https://ss.ly/123
How do I translate a message I am sending?
Simply type out your message, click the drop-down next to Translate to (language), and select the language you want to translate your message to. Note: when you translate the message, you will see the newly translated message display on your screen. Press Send when you are ready!
Reply to a Parent's text
SchoolStatus will alert you when you receive a message from a parent contact. From the web browser, a red alert icon will appear at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Once you click on the icon, the message will appear in the dialogue box. The unread or new message will be highlighted differently from your sent or previously viewed messages.
If the reply is in a language you don't recognize, you can click on Translate from (language) and select the language you prefer.
This is a view of your received message after you translate it. Note: The message will translate to the language you preferred under the original message.
Texting a Student Contact from the mobile app
Open the mobile app and click the + at the top right and then choose an Individual Message.
After clicking on 'Individual Message', you'll be directed to the next screen where you can search and select the student followed by the contact you wish to message. Clicking on the contact will bring you to the following screen where you can type your message, add an attachment, translate the message, or call them if you need to.
Once you send your message, you'll see the screen change to show your message preceded by an automatic SchoolStatus message letting the contact know who the message is from. You can send another message to this contact or you can click the back button at the top right to return to the 'Conversations' page.
Reply to Parent Messages
SchoolStatus will alert you when you receive a message from a parent contact. In the SchoolStatus Mobile App on your phone, a red alert will appear over the Conversations icon. The unread or new message will be highlighted differently from your sent or previously viewed messages.
If the reply is in a language you don't recognize, you can click on the translate icon next to the message and select the language you prefer. You can do this on any message that you've sent or received.
Click the translate icon to select your desired language from the list.
In this example, I chose French. Once selected, I'm returned to the previous screen where I can see my initial message and the translated message under it.
