Here's how to send a Broadcast message to student parents who aren't outside of Courses or Student Groups.
About Broadcast Messaging
Broadcast messaging is a SchoolStatus communication tool that allows a user to send out a single message to multiple parent contacts at once. It's kind of like a group text, but responses come back as 1:1 private conversations; when a parent replies other parents do not see that message.
In this article, we will walk you through how create a Broadcast Message for a random set of individual parent contacts, like maybe parents who had a student absent yesterday or those who have not yet sent a field trip permission slip.
You can also send a Broadcast to a Class or a Student Group.
Send a Broadcast to Individual Contacts
Click Broadcast from the bottom right of the screen.
Click +New Message, the orange button, to start a message.
Select your Audience. In this case, you'll select Individual Contacts.
Click a student from the list or type a student's name to locate the student.
Tip: If you start typing at least 3 letters in a student's name, it will narrow down the list. When you have located the student you want click on their name.
Choose the Contact of the Student. To add contacts to the message CLICK the + on the right of the contact. As you click the blue + it will turn to a red -. You can click the red - to remove the contact from the message.
Review Selected Recipients. You can also click the + Add Recipients button and repeat steps 4-5 to add more individual contacts. You can also add student groups or courses. For instructions on how to add those, see the links at the bottom of this article.
TYPE your message into the text box. You may also add attachments by clicking Add Attachments. When your message is complete.
Note that even though our platform gives you the ability to send a message up to 1600 characters, some parents use carriers that will split your longer messages into smaller 160 character segments, causing them to be received out of order. For best results, send multiple 160 characters messages, and they will be received in the order you have sent them.
Hit SEND to send your Broadcast Message.
