Broadcast Messaging is a feature in SchoolStatus that allows a user to send out a single message to multiple users at once. It's like a group message but responses come back as 1 to 1 conversations, so when a parent replies, other parents will not see that message. This tutorial will show you how to send a message to all of the preferred contact numbers of a student group at once. This is a great way to send out announcements to your student groups.
Pro-Tip: You do not need to create a student group to send a broadcast message to all the parents of students enrolled in your your classes. See the article, Broadcast Message a Class, to learn how to send a single message to all the parents of students in a class or in multiple classes. Classes are updated automatically each night to reflect changes in a student's schedule. Student groups must be custom built and are traditionally used to give a teacher access to student not in their classes.
Step 1: Click Broadcast from the bottom right of the screen
Step 2: Click +New Message, the orange button
Step 3: Select A Student Group
Click on the button titled A Student Group to begin sending a message to a student group.
Step 4: Select Group(s)
Hit the "+" sign next to the groups you wish to message. You can select more than one group. When you have selected the group or groups you wish to message, hit Next.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Contacts must be marked with the Star on the Student Card Contacts page in order to receive the Broadcast. For detailed instructions on how to mark stars on contacts read the article How To Star Preferred Contacts.
Step 6: Review Selected Recipients
You are now brought to a screen in which you can review the selected recipients.
In the box on the upper left you can see the total number of contacts this message will go out to. In my example, this message will go out to 8 parent contacts. If you wish to add more, you can hit +Add Recipients and add more groups, courses, or individual contacts. See the instructions linked at the bottom of this article for detailed instructions on course and individual contacts.
Step 7: Send Broadcast
Type your message into the text box and clip the paper clip if you wish to add attachments. Once you have typed your message and added any attachments, hit Send.
You have now sent your message. To learn more about Broadcast Messages you should check out these help articles:
