Broadcast Messaging allows users to send messages to multiple recipients, while still keeping your cell number private. Here are the details on Broadcast Messaging specifically for our Higher Ed users.
Note before we start: Contacts must be marked with the Star on the Student Card Contacts page in order to receive the Broadcast. SchoolStatus has pre-selected the cell phone number as the preferred contact for each student, if that student has multiple contact numbers. To edit the preferred contact status, click on the Student Card, then Contacts, and select the Star icon next to the number you want to select as preferred.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR WEB:
Step 1: Click Broadcast from the bottom right of the screen.
Step 2: Click +New Message, the orange button.
Step 3: Select your audience: Groups, Courses, or Contact(s) or any combination of those.
Select Courses if you want to send a broadcast to the course.
Step 4: In the Find a course box, start typing the name of the course. (Note: you must type 4 letters for the course name to populate.)
Step 5: Once you select the course, type your message and click Send.
NOTE: Broadcasts send the same message to multiple students. Students who respond to the Broadcast will reply only to you, not the rest of the recipients.
When a student has replied to the Broadcast, you'll see the indicator on the Messages button.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOBILE:
How to View Replies on Mobile
Step 1: Open either iPhone or Android app, (I’m displaying iPhone version) and tap Broadcast from the bottom menu.
Step 2: Tap the + in the top right corner to start a new Broadcast.
Step 3: Select either Courses, Groups, or Contacts. (It defaults to Courses)
Type the name of the course to which you'd like to send the Broadcast. Remember, you must type 4 letters in order for the course to show up. Select the course and you'll see how many recipients are slated to receive the message. In this instance it's 22 recipients. The maximum allowed at one time is 300, so it reads 22/300.
To remove the course, tap the red circle with the minus sign. To add additional groups or contacts, tap the buttons above to continue to add recipients. Then tap Next.
Step 4: Type your message and send!
Use the paperclip to attach files from your phone. Tap the paper airplane to send.
Broadcasts show in the inbox on web and mobile regardless from where the message originated.
