*This help article is for our new mobile app for iOS. We are performing a 'staged rollout' so not all customers will have the ability to download the update at the same time. If you are still using the prior version of our app and need help, please click here.
SchoolStatus Mobile on iPhone allows you to make calls, send texts, and broadcasts right from your phone. And don't worry, your cell phone number remains private.
How to Download SchoolStatus Mobile
Simply go to your Apple App Store (for iPhone) and search for SchoolStatus (or click HERE for the iPhone app store.) Download, and you're ready to go!
Getting Started
First off, you'll need a SchoolStatus account. If you don't have one, contact your district or school administrator to create one for you.
Upon opening the app, you'll enter your Email and Password. You can also use the Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft Account option. Tap Continue to move through the auth0.com authentication process. *Note: We recommend whitelisting auth0.com within your network.
Next, you'll need to create your 4-digit PIN and repeat to confirm.
Forgot your PIN or password?
If you forget your PIN, you can click 'I forgot my PIN'. The app will ask you to enter your login credentials and you'll be able to create another PIN. If you forget your password, you can click 'I forgot my password'. The app will ask you to enter your school email address, and we will send you a link to create a new one.
Place and Review Communications
Once you're logged in, tap Conversations at the bottom to see your history or start a new message. Tap on an existing message to see and reply to previous messages. You can send and receive multiple pictures, GIFs, and emojis too.
When you try to add photos for the first time, you'll see this Access your Photos request. You can allow this access.
Start a new Individual or Broadcast message
Click the + sign and then select Individual (to send a message to one contact) or Broadcast (to send a message to a class or group.)
Sending a Broadcast Message
Select Broadcast from the bottom menu, then click the + in the top corner to start a new broadcast.
Next, give your message a title and choose your audience. You can choose a Course (your students are already in courses, no need to create a group for your course), a Student Group (must be created first; here's a help article on that), or individual contacts.
Pro tip: The ideal number of students for a Broadcast is about 125.
To send a Broadcast to a Course, you'll select your name (as a teacher), the term, and then the course. Click the + to add that course to your broadcast.
To send a Broadcast to a Group, you'll first create the Group and then select the name of the Group as your audience.
Pro tip: Before sending a Broadcast, you must first star your contacts as preferred (here's a help article on that). If you see 0 contacts selected, you probably don't have any contacts marked with the star.
Notice you can also add attachments. Type your message and send!
Calls
Choose Calls from the bottom of the screen. Here you will see a list of your previous incoming and outgoing calls.
The first time you try to place a call, you'll be asked to Access the Microphone. Click OK! If you click Don't Allow, parents won't hear you talking.
Contacts
Choose Contacts at the bottom of your screen.
Once you have chosen a student, you can choose which parent/contact you'd like to select and see the student's courses. After you select a contact, you can initiate a message, a call, or a video chat.
You can also edit the Preferred Contact setting and flag an incorrect phone number that needs to be updated in your Student Information System.
Settings
From the Settings tab, you can contact support, edit your personal phone number and account information, and adjust your access and notifications. Click Settings on the bottom right to get started. You can also log out of the app from the Settings page.
When you click Add a Time Slot, you'll see the option to select the days and times you'd like to be available for calls from parents. Don't forget to Save!
Questions? You can always reach out to our friendly support staff for assistance.
iPhone Steps to Turn Notifications Off
You may want to allow notifications on your web account but not on your mobile device. We've got a solution for you!
Click on Settings. Then scroll down to the list of your installed apps. Find SchoolStatus and click it. From there, you can turn notifications off for just this app.
With SchoolStatus Mobile, you can bridge that important communication gap with parents, driving student performance and outcomes.
